The warnings were all there. Family members told me illustrious tales about how I would be kidnapped by the Federales, sold to the local cartels, or lose all my money in streetside muggings. Looking back, those warnings seem so far-fetched, they are borderline offensive. Yes, I moved to a country that has garnered a reputation of chaos, but also this country has a reputation of compassion, love, and culture. Either way, when I crossed borders five months ago, I came here with an idea of what I would find; it turns out, I found so much more.
